Youth tanning bed ban signed into law in NC-

A dozen bills signed into law by Gov. Pat McCrory include a ban on anyone under 18 using tanning beds in North Carolina.  The ban begins Oct. 1.   Current rules gave most teens access to tanning beds with parental permission. Ban supporters cited evidence linking tanning sessions for young people to increased risk of skin cancer as adults.  http://goo.gl/2ofEi4

High costs cause change in plans for new Davie County High School

Unexpected high costs for construction bids on the new Davie County High School have caused administrators to make changes and scale back plans.  Quality, programs or space requirements have not been compromised.    President of Davie Construction Company says the high construction bids are being caused by skyrocketing prices for materials.  http://goo.gl/bfDODY

Police from the Carolinas deliver SUV full of groceries to struggling family

It’s always great to see stories like this one, where local police in Simpsonville were responding to a Welfare check and noticed a struggling single mother with two young children and they didn’t have much food.  Thanks to the generosity of police officers and a local grocery store this family now has a pantry full.   http://goo.gl/2ofEi4

Law enforcement officers will be issuing tickets to drivers and passengers who aren’t buckled up, and drivers may see seat belt checkpoints on some roads.  Click it or Tick it will run through May 31st.  Source:  Winston Salem Journal
