UPDATE: Deadly crash in southern Forsyth County this morning: Highway 109 near Meadowview Road (just north of Fiddler’s Creek Apartments). Both lanes were CLOSED. Fox 8 reporting that the wreck happened around 7:45 a.m. this morning and was BLOCKED in both directions for several hours.

Stiffer penalties on the way for drivers who pass a stopped school bus in North Carolina. Starting December 1st, drivers caught illegally passing a stopped school bus will face a minimum $500 dollar fine and (in some cases) could lose their licenses. The current law is a misdemeanor with a penalty of up to five points on your license and up to a $200 dollar fine. Last Thursday, 17 year old Makinzy Jordan Smith was killed while crossing the street to board his stopped school bus near Salisbury.
