Fall Foliage Forecast: Van Denton shares his wisdom on what to expect

Fox 8 weather guy Van Denton has been getting lots of people asking about the Fall color based on our wetter than normal summer.  Van says on his weather blog: “The key is going to be what happens in September.  If we see more dry weather and sunshine during the month of September, we could experience a very nice fall foliage that lasts longer than usual.” Estimated Peak Season for Fall color

Before October 7th – Above 5000 feet (Near the top of Grandfather Mountain)

Before October 12th –  Above 4000 feet (much of the Blue Ridge Parkway)

Before October 17th – Above 3000 feet (Boone, Blowing Rock, West Jefferson)

Before October 22nd –   Above 2000 feet (Pilot Mountain, Hanging Rock and Sauratown Mountain)

Before October 27th  Above 1000 feet (Mount Airy and Brushy Mountains of Wilkes county)

Between October 27th and November 1stBelow 1000 feet (Triad cities)
