The “Great Outdoors” are not-so-great when mosquitoes and/or sunburn ruin the fun.  Thankfully, Consumer  Reports recently reviewed sunscreens and insect repellents to help you make the best choices.

When it comes to sunscreens, the good news is that you don’t have to spend a lot to get a good product.  In fact, 3 of the 4 top choices are store brands.   The best picks according to CR:

  • Target Up and UP Sports SPF 50
  • Walmart Equate Ultra Protection Sunscreen SPF 50
  • Coppertone Water Babies 50 lotion
  • Walgreens Continuous Spray Sports SPF 50

As far as bug repellent goes, it seems the higher the percentage of DEET the better the protection.  However, one DEET free product did score high in the tests as well.  Here are the products that CR says work the best:

Co-Host, Your Family-Friendly Morning Show

I have three awesome kids - Andrew, Carley and Laura. My husband, Alton, is a delivery driver by day with dreams of one day publishing his own comic book. Yes, he is a geek, but I love him anyway.

I have been working at WBFJ since September 2004 when God threw me out of the boat I was riding in and set me on a new and wonderful course. I love co-hosting the morning show, although the lack of sleep does make me a bit loopy at times.
