PTI: Numerous flights canceled or delayed because of Winter Storm Nemo (News stories from Friday)

Winter Storm Nemo is setting sights on New England – and taking a similar path as Hurricane Sandy. As much as a foot of snow possible in New York City and up to 3 feet in Boston could be on the ground by Saturday. Numerous flights in and out of Piedmont Triad International Airport have been canceled (or delayed) because of the winter storm.  Go to for updated flight information from PTI.

The Annual NCHE Homeschool Conference will take place May 23 – 25  at the Benton Convention Center in downtown Winston-Salem. **Special one price

                                         The final event of the conference is senior graduation.  If you have a homeschooler that is graduating in May, and you want to be part of the NCHE graduation on Saturday, May 25th…you have until March 1st to fill out and send in your application.  Families must be ‘members’ of NCHE at the time the student graduates. Trade in food for a ‘movie’ fine?  The Forsyth County Public Library system is holding its “Food For Fines” campaign during February.  You can pay-off your outstanding ‘movie fine’ by donating non-perishable food items. The Library will in turn reduce your VHS/DVD ‘fine’ by a dollar for EACH food item donated.  All donated food items will go to Second Harvest Food Bank.

A bill that would create new high school diplomas and course plans that emphasize vocational or career paths that don’t require four-year college degrees unanimously passed the Senate on Thursday. The bill directs the State Board of Education to require, beginning with the 2014-2015 school year, that diplomas carry ‘new seals’ endorsing graduates as “career ready,” ”college ready” or both, depending on their courses. The measure fits into Governor Pat McCrory’s campaign platform that not all students must attend traditional colleges to obtain well-paying jobs.
