Heartburn: What triggers it? What can help? (Wake Forest Baptist Medical)

How do you spell ‘Heartburn’?  For me, too much cheese dip and salsa. Experts
with Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center suggesting that Heartburn or acid reflux can be triggered by a variety of factors- beyond the spicy foods.    Stress, Smoking even medical conditions like asthma, diabetes or an abnormal stomach muscle/nerve function can cause Heartburn or acid reflux.

Some tips on how to avoid this uncomfortable experience: Eat smaller portions and do it slowly.  Avoid spicy or acidic foods. Substitute fried foods with items that are grilled or baked. Steer clear of caffeinated, carbonated (and alcoholic) beverages.

BTW: If Heartburn or acid reflux happens constantly it could lead to more serious health issues. For more health information: http://www.wakehealth.edu/Health-Central/Articles/
