A new national study finding that parents who are footing more of the college tuition bill for their children give them a better chance of graduating…BUT, generous financial support could lead to lower grades? According to the  University of California (Merced) study, students who financially pour into their
college work harder vs students with parents picking up more of the tab are free to take on a more active social and extracurricular activities…that could lead to a lower GPA.  Students who get a blank check from their parents for college may
not take their education as seriously as others.   Financial help can also have a positive effect:  The study finding that students ‘earning’ grants, scholarships, work-study, student employment and veterans benefits do NOT have similar negative effects on GPA.  What about the ‘psychological effect’: The report says that with
grants, “students feel like they’ve earned them in some way” and want
to justify them.”   www.nydailynews.com/news/national/pay-kid-college-gpa-study-article-1.1240487#ixzz2I8sszzdY
