CDC: Widespread Flu cases in 47 States. The Flu continues its march across the US, with 47 states now reporting widespread influenza activity, up from 41 last week. However, flu cases have gone down in some areas, especially in the Southeast, where it showed up first. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also
reported that the current vaccine was found to be about 60% effective, offering

Cutting down germ transmission during flu season: wash your hands. New research suggests that boosting the percentage of young males who wash their hands could be as simple as posting “good hygiene” messages in the Men’s room? Researchers from Michigan State University posted signs that read “4 out of 5 Males Wash Their Hands.” The signs included details about proper hand-washing. Fight for Religious Liberty continues. The arts and craft chain Hobby Lobby has found a way to temporarily postpone compliance with Obamacare’s abortion pill mandate, thus avoiding fines of up to $1.3 million a day while its case moves forward in the courts. National AMBER Alert Awareness Day was observed on Sunday. The system
was named after Amber Hagerman…who was kidnapped and eventually found dead in Texas back in 1996. Law enforcement started the AMBER Alert system later that year. **North Carolina has a 100% recovery rate since the Amber Alert system was implemented in our state back in 2002. FYI: AMBER stands for “America’s Missing Broadcast Emergency Response”

Thousands of people gathered in central Moscow on Sunday to protest Russia’s new law ‘banning’ Americans from adopting children from Russia. The adoption ban is in retaliation for a new U.S. law aimed at punishing Russians accused of human rights abuses. Emmett Forrest from Mt Airy- the long-time friend of Andy Griffith - passed away over the weekend while in Hospice care. Emmett was 85 years old. According to the Mt Airy News, Visitation will take place this evening, with a funeral service planned for Tuesday afternoon. Emmett devoted much of his time to preserving Griffith’s memory by donating to the Andy Griffith Museum.
