CDC: Widespread Flu cases in 47 States.  The Flu continues its march across the US, with 47 states now reporting widespread influenza activity, up from 41 last week. However, flu cases have gone down in some areas, especially in the Southeast, where it showed up first. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also
reported that the current vaccine was found to be about 60% effective, offering
“moderate” protection from the flu. Peak flu season is usually late January.  http://consumer.healthday.com/Article.asp?AID=672440

Cutting down germ transmission during flu season: wash your hands. New research suggests that boosting the percentage of young males who wash their hands could be as simple as posting “good hygiene” messages in the Men’s room?  Researchers from Michigan State University posted signs that read “4 out of 5 Males Wash Their Hands.”  The signs included details about proper hand-washing. With the signs in place, the men were more likely to wash their hands (and even wash longer) compared to when the signs weren’t there. h http://consumer.healthday.com/Article.asp?AID=672368
