Congratulations: Nora Baker, principal of Jefferson Elementary, has been named 2013 Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Principal of the Year. Baker has been the principal of Jefferson since 2001. She has spent her entire educational career in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County schools. A non-contagious, fungal form of meningitis in Tennessee has spread to 4 additional states including North Carolina. 26 people have become sick, along with 4 deaths. All of those infected had received steroid injections to the spine. Federal health officials have identified a company (New England Compounding Center) that supplies epidural steroid injections that patients received prior to contracting the meningitis.
