FREE Tdap vaccination clinics for 6th graders (NEWS for Thursday)

Guilford County Health Department will hold several Tdap vaccination clinics starting TODAY (Sept 13) for 6th graders until 6:30pm at both the Greensboro and High Point locations.   Parents need to bring their health insurance card.  Additional Tdap clinics will be held on Sept 21 (FRI) and Sept 25 (TUE).  An appointment is required: Call 641-3245.

Need a job?  Looks like companies in Guilford County will be hiring this Fall with the Greensboro – High Point area making the Forbes Magazine “Best Cities for Jobs’ list.  Actually, the Greensboro – High Point area is right behind top-ranked San Jose, California. FYI: Some 24% of employers in the Greensboro-High Point area plan to increase their workforce this Fall.  Twenty percent of employers in the Charlotte area said they planned on hiring.–best-cities-for-jobs

Update:  More violent protests at US embassies overseas. Angry mobs are still gathering outside the US Embassies in Egypt and Yemen.   Violent demonstrations have erupted in Sudan, Tunisia, Morocco and Gaza.  US warships are making their way to northern Africa and the Arabian Sea.   US Marines have been deployed to Libya after four Americans including the US Ambassador to Libya were killed on Tuesday after ‘protestors’ attacked the US Consulate in the Libyan city of Benghazi.   Violent protests in several Islamic nations were sparked by a 14-minute trailer, posted on YouTube, from a film demeaning the Prophet Muhammad.

 The new movie “Last Ounce of Courage” hits theaters this Friday. “Last Ounce of Courage” centers around a combat veteran who, as a small-town mayor, begins to take a stand for religious freedom. Check local theater locations and times:

Katie LaRue (a Kernersville native and the younger sister of Wake Forest basketball assistant coach Rusty LaRue) made an appearance on the “Katie”
(Katie Couric’s new talk show / Fox8 WGHP).  Katie LaRue shared her story of how she recovered from a broken neck after a mountain biking accident back in in 1999. Katie LaRue is now a basketball coach and a singer/songwriter, after teaching herself how to play guitar as part of her physical therapy.

 Eat More Chicken: A new Chick-fil-A restaurant is finally open in Mt Airy.  The new Chick-Fil-A at 2007 Rockford Street will employ 70 people.  The first 100 people (18 years old or older) in line received FREE Chick-Fil-A for a year.

Irish Eyes are smiling:  Notre Dame will join the ACC by 2015 in all sports except football.  But, the Fighting Irish have agreed to play 5 ACC teams in Football per season  (on a rotating basis).   BTW: Notre Dame is the third team in the past year to join the ACC from the Big East conference.

Best of five series:  The Greensboro Grasshoppers (at home tonight) vs the Asheville Tourists in Game three of the South Atlantic League title.  BTW: The Hoppers are just two wins away from back to back division titles.

The WS Dash ended their season last night, losing to Lynchburg 5-4.
