A long weekend? The unofficial start to summer? Cook-outs with family and friends? The original intent of Memorial Day: A day to remember those who have died in service to our country, giving the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom we all enjoy in America.
Local Memorial Day Events
Saturday (May 26): Veterans Memorial Display and Gathering at the Thomasville Recreational Center, 205 E. Main St. (10am - 3pm)
Sunday (May 27)
5pm Memorial Service at Hillside Park Baptist Church
7pm Marine Band Concert at Finch Auditorium (Thomasville) FREE tickets are available at BB&T on Randolph Street in Thomasville.
Monday (May 28)
Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony in Thomasville (25th Anniversary)
9am Laying of the wreath to honor all veterans at the ‘North Carolina Veterans Memorial’ on I-85 south
9:30am Mayor Joe Bennett will host a program at the bandstand to honor the families of service men and women who died in the line of duty over the past year. �
11:20am Memorial Day Parade (starts at the Big Chair and will run up Salem Street to Cushwa Stadium)
Noon Ceremony including a Parachute Jump – Cushwa Stadium
1:45pm Memorial Park ceremony - Special Guests include: Medal of Honor Recipient Harvey Barnum, Medal of Honor Recipient Rudy Hernandez and George Patton Waters (Grandson of Gen. George Patton).
